Overview of Mental Health Resources in Stockton, California

The historic city of Stockton, California is known by many for its beautiful location along the San Joaquin River. This city is the 13th largest in California and one of the 75 top largest cities in the United States. Home to a great deal of farmland and thousands of miles of waterways that make up the California Delta, this community is known for bringing in a great deal of farmers, wildlife experts, and fishermen. However, its thriving downtown area also makes it a popular place for everyone from growing families to young professionals.

Despite its highly diverse population, much like the rest of California, Stockton has high divorce rates. While the national divorce rate hovers around 50%, it is estimated that California divorce rates can be even higher—with as many as 60% of all California marriages culminating in divorce. This is an issue that can require a great deal of counseling. Many couples decided to engage in counseling before and during their divorce proceedings and many divorced couples trying to co-parent will continue to work with a counselor after they have divorced to help their kids.

Many individuals dealing with divorce and marital issues also, unfortunately, deal with several other mental health symptoms following such a traumatic life event. Depression, anxiety, and extreme changes in mood and behavior can all start following divorce, and those experiencing these side effects must get help immediately to regain control of their lives. This is where a Stockton area therapist can come in.

The right mental health professional can help the many people dealing with depression whether it is following a divorce or if it has been a clinical, ongoing issue. Depression is a very serious issue in the United States today, and depression diagnosis is currently on the rise, in The United States, increasing by 33% over the past few years. However, while these numbers can seem alarming, this is a good thing as diagnosis of depression is the first step to getting treatment and this means more and more people in the US are seeking treatment for this condition.

Unfortunately, depression can be linked not only to suicide rates but to drug abuse as well. This is a major problem in Stockton’s San Joaquin County and one that requires professional counseling. The Stockton area’s rate of drug-induced death is currently 56% higher than the rest of California.

The city of Stockton and surrounding San Joaquin County currently have initiatives in place to help improve the mental and physical health of the community, but that alone is not enough. Individuals living in Stockton, or anywhere around the United States need to take the time to seek treatment. This is where our directory of therapists can help.

Whether you have a condition you are looking to treat such as depression or drug use, or if you are looking for a therapist who can provide you with ongoing support, the right therapist for you is out there. Start looking through our directory of Stockton area therapists. You can filter through our results and determine what therapist is the best for you based on their location, gender, and the type of treatments they offer. You will also want to think about whether or not you believe your condition requires a specialist. You should also check with your insurance company at this time to make sure the professional you are interested in will take your insurance.

While you are searching for a directory, you will also want to write down some of the goals that you have. This will help you in connecting with the right mental health professional. Think about what you want to achieve. Are you looking for a diagnosis? Do you have a diagnosis? Are you looking for a cure? Do you want to take medication for your problem? Are you seeking ongoing counseling? The more clear you are about your ideal outcome with therapy, the better.
