Overview of Mental Health Resources in Hialeah, Florida

The historic city of Hialeah, Florida is located right in Miami-Dade County and is the primary city of the Miami metropolitan area. While many people may rope Hialeah in with Miami itself, it is a city of its own and the 6th largest in Florida. Filled with culture, Hialeah has the highest percentage of Cuban and Cuban-American residents of any city in the United States. Around 73% of the population is Cuban or Cuban-American. The city also has one of the largest Spanish-speaking communities in the United States with nearly 90% of residents speaking Spanish.

While Hialeah has proven to be a unique community of its own, nestled out of Miami’s bustling metropolitan area, the community does have several hardships. Primarily, the town struggles with poverty issues. Households in Hialeah, FL have a median annual income that is less than the United States average. It is also less than the rest of Miami-Dade County and the entire state of Florida.

Many individuals dealing with poverty and financial issues also, unfortunately, deal with several other mental health symptoms as a result. Depression, anxiety and even drug abuse have all been closely linked to financial strain and poverty. While it can seem like issues such as this have no end in sight, there are many people in Hialeah, and around the country who have found peace of mind with professional counseling services. The great news is, it is often much more affordable than many people think to get this type of professional help.

The right mental health professional can help the many people dealing with depression and anxiety whether it is due to an issue such as poverty, or if it has been a clinical, ongoing struggle. Depression is a very serious issue not only in communities such as Hialeah but around the country. More and more people are now being diagnosed with depression every year. In fact, in the United States, depression diagnosis has increased by 33% over the past few years.

These numbers are alarming, and while they do indicate a rise in depression issues, they also indicate the growing number of individuals who are going in and getting the help that they need and deserve. Untreated depression can increase an individual’s likelihood to commit suicide and their tendency to abuse drugs and alcohol as well.

This should come as no surprise to those who are familiar with Florida, as the state has long experienced struggles with drug addiction. The state recently had a record year, experiencing nearly 5,000 drug overdose-related deaths just in a year. The rate of drug overdoses in Florida is also higher than the national average. This is why anyone who is struggling with drug and alcohol-related issues should get professional counseling right away before it is too late.

Professional mental health counseling can be the key to preventing drug use issues from getting out of hand and helping those who are seriously addicted to drugs and alcohol get the help that they need. Whether you are in Hialeah, or located anywhere else in the country, our directory can help.

Therapy and counseling can help you work through serious issues such as drug addiction and depression. It can also help with everything from post-partum depression and anxiety to insomnia. Many people choose to undergo therapy on a regular, consistent basis as a way to help support, enrich, and nourish their lives.

Whether you have a condition you are looking to resolve, are seeking medication as part of your treatment plan, or are looking for ongoing support in your daily life—we can help you find a therapist that will meet your needs. Start looking through our directory of Hialeah area therapists. You can filter through our results and determine what counselor is the best for you. As you do this, keep a few other considerations in mind, such as:

  • Whether you are looking for someone close by or if distance isn’t a major factor for you.
  • Do you prefer a male or a female therapist?
  • Treatments offered. Are you looking for a specific type of therapy? Are you interested in medication?
  • Do you feel your situation requires a specialist?

In addition to determining these things, you should also check with your insurance company at this time to make sure the professional you are interested in will take your insurance.
