Malory Dahl
I completed my Masters of Arts in Counseling, Specializing in Forensic Psychology, from Adler University and have a variety of clinical experiences that have crystallized a passion for providing personalized mental health services to a diverse clientele. My clinical background with forensic populations exposed me to the cyclical nature of trauma and its effect on the human psyche, which instilled an interest for working with vulnerable persons. I have worked extensively with children and adolescents, incorporating creative treatment modalities to facilitate healthy emotion regulation, and specialize in these client demographics.
During my clinical training, I facilitated weekly individual and group therapies specializing in anxiety and mood disorders, aggression and impulse control, and trauma. My tenure as an Inpatient Therapist at a Psychiatric and Behavioral Health Hospital included facilitating a weekly trauma-specific group for children and pre-adolescents, where I incorporated Play Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help younger client demographics understand their trauma and the destructive thinking patterns associated with their suffering. The bulk of my client load consisted of children and adolescents predominantly experiencing Social Anxiety, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder, often comorbid with substance-related issues.
My therapeutic approach incorporates strengths-based practices that highlight the collaborative partnership between the therapist and client. I firmly believe that clients have the answers within themselves, but it often takes the therapeutic alliance to help work through problems and guide the client to resolutions and self-realization. I tailor therapeutic intervention to the individual but often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness-Based treatment modalities infused with humanistic principles. My responsibility as a clinician is to equip clients with the tools for personal growth and fulfillment, and to effectively do so means to discover what the client has within themselves, and help them see and embrace it.
It takes vulnerability and courage to enter therapy, and I look forward to taking that journey with you.
