Steve Edwards

Steve is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker who graduated in the Advanced Standing Program from the School of Social Welfare at the University of Kansas with a Master of Social Work degree in 1989, having completed extensive Practicum experience working in the Sexual Offender Treatment Program at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. Steve has an undergraduate degree from Wichita State University in social work (1977). He completed his Clinical Studies at Hutchinson Hospital and Horizons Mental Health Center in 1994.

With over 45 years of experience, Steve has served in a multitude of positions including State Director of Family Preservation Services for Saint Francis Community Services for approximately 10 years, various positions at Horizons Mental Health Center for 17 years including Clinical Director, Director of Community Based Services, Coordinator of the Children’s Sexual Abuse Treatment Program, and concurrently served as the Reno County Head Start Mental Health Consultant for over ten years. In addition, Steve has been an instructor in several different Social Science classes at Hutchinson Community College. He provided therapeutic services at Samaritan Counseling Services in Hutchinson, Kansas, as well providing in-home family therapy services for United Methodist Youthville. He has developed numerous trainings and has presented many workshops on a variety of topics. Prior to attending Graduate school, Steve worked in a number of different child welfare positions with the Kansas Department for Children and Families (then know as SRS).

Steve and his wife Julie, who are avid runners, share four adult children and six grandchildren.

Steve’s current practice focus is working with men who are either single, or as they head their families, maintain a work (or retired) life, and establish their own purpose. Addressed issues include mood disorders, unhealthy behaviors, histories of abuse and neglect, grief, trauma, and pornography. Steve also works with couples to preserve and strengthen their relationship. He and his wife conduct SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) and Prepare/Enrich consultations with pre-married couples. Julie is an AACC Certified Life Coach who is available to work conjunctly with Steve in couples work. Julie, who is a former fitness instructor, and Steve utilize a whole person health perspective.
