Overview of Mental health Resources in Montgomery, Alabama

Montgomery is the capital and second-most populous city of the state of Alabama. It is also is the seat of Montgomery County and according to the 2010 census it had an estimated 205,764 residents. The city is known for its historical significance and cultural landmarks.  Its location along the Alabama River has made it a regional distribution hub for various industries. The economy of the city has grown to include a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, technology, and manufacturing. Being the state capital, it is the location for many government agencies and also has a large Air Force Base. Despite this thriving economy, the city is still dealing with problems in providing enough access to mental health services. In fact, Alabama was ranked 48th out of the all the United States for delivery and access to care.

A Growing Concern

Providing residents with the care they need is an important issue across Alabama because mental health and substance abuse are the second greatest current health concern for the state. Many of those that are incarcerated are dealing with such problems.

Mental health issues affect people from all walks of life. It is something that transcends race, age, gender, and socioeconomic status. It is especially important that individuals obtain the diagnosis and treatment that could help them.

If you are experiencing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse problems you may consider reaching out for help- and we want to assist you in finding a Montgomery therapist or mental health professional. Finding someone who can work with you around your schedule and life can help you get through challenging times.

Asking for help is not always easy, but we want to make sure that your search for support services can be. When you are ready to find a mental health professional in the Montgomery area, we can give you some guidance on how to navigate the process. For example, before you start your search we suggest taking an inventory of your situation and evaluating what type of help you might need.

The Questions You Should Ask Yourself

Taking the time to figure out more about yourself and what your expectations are can be a big help towards finding the right treatment and services for you. Taking stock of the challenges you are dealing with and what your communication style is can give you insight into what might work best for you.

Some of the questions you might want to ask yourself might be about the outcomes you are hoping to get from the process. Also, how long can you commit to a treatment plan? It is worth considering whether you feel more comfortable discussing personal issues with a male or a female. Perhaps it doesn’t matter to you. Another consideration is whether you are dealing with a concern that would be best treated by a specialist, such as an eating disorder or substance abuse.

Hopefully, after you finish asking yourself these questions you will have a better idea of what you need to look for in a mental health professional to get the right fit.

Will Your Health Insurance Pay?

Finding out if your health insurance company will cover all or part of your treatment is another important question to begin with. You may find that they do cover the services of care providers within their network- this could potentially save you a significant amount out-of-pocket. The cost of working with a mental health professional be overwhelming so talking with your health insurance company can help you figure out what your best options might be.
