Kevin Thompson

I received my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Virginia Tech. Worked for over 8 years as outpatient substance abuse therapist at local mental health agency providing counseling to individuals recovering from substance abuse as well as mood disorders, personality disorders, and process addictions. I received training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy by instructors from Behavioral Tech and participated on DBT consultation team for 5 years. I served on Trauma consultation team for 8 years, focus on trauma-informed treatment. Led therapy groups including Men's TREM (Trauma Recovery and Empowerment), ATRIUM (Addictions and Trauma Recovery Integration Model), and Trauma-Informed substance abuse groups.

In recovery since 1996, I have personal awareness of what contributes to people making choices that limit their potential. I appreciate how challenging it can be to face experiences that have shaped a person and move beyond the limiting beliefs many have adopted to protect themselves from the pain, fear and abandonment they have known.

The transformation I experienced has offered me a unique perspective on both sides of the therapeutic process. It has provided me insight and compassion for those struggling and continues to inspire me to be of service to all people as we seek a more authentic and reassuring awareness of who we are.
