After a thirty-year career as a costume designer in television, Kathryn had a yearning for more personal fulfillment and decided to go back to school to get her masters at Antioch University Los Angeles in clinical psychology with honors. During her three years of training at Southern California Counseling Center, Kathryn worked at Saturn Street Elementary School – seeing students twice weekly, in Koreatown at the Karsh Center and at SCCC where she co-led a LGBT + teen group and worked with a diverse population of families, couples, individuals and children. Kathryn became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist last fall and opened her private practice in her guesthouse in Santa Monica.
With so many cutbacks, Kathryn is aware of how important and underfunded mental health is in this country, so she decided to give back to the community by volunteering at the YMCA in Santa Monica helping with infant care. Kathryn also volunteers at Canyon Charter Elementary School as a school counselor. Kathryn see children, couples and families in her private practice Tuesdays – Thursdays and Saturdays. Currently, Kathryn is in a training supervision group learning the specific complexities and sensitivities of working with trans youth.
