Ms. Tempest holds a master’s degree in Counseling from the College of William and Mary and undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a National Certified Counselor and a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. Ms. Tempest has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2007.

Ms. Tempest has worked in private, community non-profit, and government agencies serving a wide range of populations including military service members and their families. She initially specialized in working with children, adolescents, and families, but over the years her experience expanded to include work with individual adults and couples.

Her work focuses on coping and stress management, challenges with adjustments and transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma and loss, and family/relationship issues. Special interests include early childhood mental health and postpartum support. Ms. Tempest partners with clients to improve communication, develop stronger connections, and increase insight and understanding among individuals, couples, and families.

“People typically seek counseling to cope with life’s challenges, transitions, hurts, and losses. My hope is that, in our work together, these will not be permanent fixtures in your life. Together, we will charter a course toward your personal goals. You may be seeking to improve communication, gain greater understanding and deeper connections, increase attunement to yourself and to your family, obtain specific coping strategies, or work through whatever rough waters you are experiencing. I will honor each person and each family’s unique understanding of their challenges throughout the therapeutic process. Together we will develop ideas and solutions and draw on your personal strengths and natural supports to help you meet your goals for therapy.

My approach to counseling is to integrate all facets of a person’s being, striving for wellness and wholeness for the individual as well as the family system. I will use my knowledge and experience of evidence-based approaches, draw on my 10+ years of experience in the field, and incorporate your knowledge of yourself, your family, and your perspective in our time together. Whether you are seeking counseling for yourself, for your child, for you and your partner, or for your family, I am committed to providing a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment.

Navigating this therapeutic journey with you is a sincere privilege. I look forward to meeting you and your family and getting to know you better.”
