An Innovative New 9-Part Series

An easy to follow, free online course headed by Dr. Josh Wardwell, an Amethyst’s Neurobiology of Addiction Lecturer, who attended Northern Illinois University, and gained a PhD in Psychology-Neuroscience and Behavior, is now available courtesy of  the Amethyst Recovery Center. This has been designed to assist the general public all across the US, no matter where they live.

Now, thanks to Amethyst, anyone who is interested, whether they are a sufferer themselves, or a supportive family member or friend, will have easy nationwide access to information that is written in layman’s terms. This will incorporate: mental health, the neuroscience behind addiction, different treatment options, the danger and power of denial, the  effect of addiction on loved ones; intervention, how concerned family members and friends can protect themselves and the sufferer; and finally, how to go about taking the next steps on a journey into recovery.

A Message from Dr. Josh Wardwell, PhD

Wardwell stated: “Knowing how the brain behaves while addicted, can massively speed up the recovery process and help us make effective decisions. The course highlights the way the brain changes when addicted, and how to approach the recovery process thoughtfully. Through the course content, individuals learn the significance of addressing the underlying mental health of the individual in order to create lasting results that positively impact both the patient and their loved ones. In addition to our clinical understanding, the heart of Amethyst is hope, and it’s possible to get out of this cycle and get better”.
