All across the world, the rate of autism continues to soar, as close to 70 million autistic children’ parents: “stand helplessly by, as the sands of time take away their child’s ability to attain independence and higher quality of life because they lack access to a life-altering Autism intervention called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)”(CBC).
So What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?
This refers to a popular intervention which is based on evidence. It is globally regarded as the “gold standard” of Autism Intervention, and was attributed to B.F. Skinner. Unfortunately, even though there are more than 35,000 Board Certified Behavior Analysis therapists (BCBAs) across the world (95% of which are based in America), more than 90% of autistic people globally, do not have access to this crucial life-transforming therapy – Something that could make a tremendous difference to them, their families, and their community.
Founded some 9 years ago, Special Learning (SL), has an unwavering goal to harness tech for the purpose of delivering Applied Behavior Analysis intervention to the even the remotest regions on the planet. It aims to: “democratize healthcare, first by bringing appropriate ABA training to parents to help them become their child’s’ therapist; and next, by developing comprehensive autism curriculum to enable parents to create and maintain ABA programs virtually” .
At present, SL is in the process of developing a tool named SL Connect – a self-contained system which facilitates peer-to-peer consultation in real-time. This, together with a service delivery system of mixed-reality, is set to empower Special Learning, so that it reaches its ultimate aim of making ABA available to everyone, everywhere; so that they can truly benefit from this positive and life-altering intervention .
A ‘Director of Community Outreach’ position has been created, and an experienced professional, Colleen Anderson, has been appointed. Moreover, SL has selected Ever Learning, its sister company, to act as: “the comprehensive autism solution for parents and educators around the world looking for quality Applied Behavior Analysis intervention training and education materials, and other evidence-based Autism Intervention to address issues including ADD/ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorders”.
Increasing its Presence
In order to boost Ever Learning’s incursion into the ever-enlarging K to 12, and parent education market, Anderson, who has clocked up more than 30 successful years of connecting big and small communities, both as an influencer and leader, is extremely well fitted to this very important role.
She has always had an unwavering drive and passion to help the underrepresented populations, and those who cannot get the crucial help that they so desperately need. This mission has now been put to excellent use, helping autistic children’s parents, as well as autistic adolescents and adults, all across the globe. How fortunate we are to be living in this high tech age!
