A new website known as, has just been launched to give mental health practitioners therapeutic homework for their patients. The goal behind this initiative, is to empower mental health patients so that they learn the psychological skills they need to achieve a more fulfilling and happier life.

“When therapists assign psychological homework to their clients, they have a quicker reduction of symptoms because they feel that they have more control over their lives”

Fond Memories

Lots of us look back at our school days, and have fond memories of doing homework we enjoyed. So to that end, not many people would mind doing homework which could positively transform their lives, and make them happier and less stressed. And this is where, comes in.

So What’s On Offer?

This innovative website equips practitioners with more than 2,000 different types of tools, which enable them to provide therapeutic homework for their patients. These comprise a broad spectrum of topics, from managing the loss of a loved one, to putting an end to obsessive hand-washing. The website provides an abundance of helpful, easy to understand, audio files; worksheets, and fun games that patients can print out and play, in order to boost their treatment. Every tool on the website can be downloaded and printed off by the practitioner, so that the patient can use them in between their therapy sessions.

Experiencing Real-Life Situations

Between Sessions Resources founder, Dr. Lawrence Shapiro, noted that: “Most therapists today use evidence-based therapies rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These therapies focus on specific psychological skills that people can learn, like tolerating intrusive thoughts, developing a social support network, and controlling their impulses. It only makes sense that if a person is learning a new skill, he or she needs to practice this skill in real-life situations”.

Innovative New Software

In addition to the aforementioned, Between Sessions has recently introduced cutting-edge software known as “The Psychotherapy and Counseling Workbook Creator”, which will empower practitioners to:  “write a book of techniques for a client in less than an hour, based on the problems that trouble clients most. The book acts a “blueprint” for therapy, as well as a permanent record of a client’s progress”.

Shapiro remarked: “Many people think that counseling and psychotherapy is only about going to weekly sessions to talk to a therapist and get advice. However, the practice of psychotherapy has become much more research-based in the last few decades, particularly with the new studies of the way our brains work. We now believe that practicing specific psychological skills can help re-wire the brain, creating new neural pathways that can permanently change the behaviors and symptom patterns of clients”.

Upgrading America’s Mental Health System

The company’s Director of Operations, Angie Doel, underlined the fact that Between Sessions’ goal is to upgrade the current mental health system. She notes:  “Unfortunately, the mental health system is not on par with the broader health system in the U.S. In fact, research from the Centers for Disease Control suggests that nearly 40% of people with serious mental health problems are not receiving adequate services” . And this is a very serious situation indeed…
