The major peer-directed country-wide organization for individuals battling mood disorders, The DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance), has just joined forces with leading supplier of digital education for patients and clinicians across the therapeutic spectrum, PlatformQ Health, in order to deliver a cutting-edge initiative. This much needed new project is geared to improve the way in which clinicians treat and diagnose mental health conditions, and to: “empower the millions of Americans who personally face conditions like depression and bipolar, to make the best choices for their lives”.
DBSA Advocacy VP, Phyllis Foxworth, stated: “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with PlatformQ Health to create more action-oriented mental health education. Partnering with PlatformQ Health allows us to leverage their outcomes-centered engagement platform for our education, and deliver convenient and accessible education to clinicians and people living with mental health conditions” . Foxworth also made the point that, through this initiative, millions of patients along with their families, can benefit, and that, participants from the DBSA, the general public, payers and employer groups, will enjoy fast access to educational resources which can improve care .
The Enormous Costs of Treating Mental Health Patients
In the US, suicide rates as the second major cause of death to those aged 10 to 34; and the fourth leading cause of death to those aged 35 to 54. Moreover, every year, approximately $23 billion is lost in productivity. To that end, education is key to ameliorating this tragic situation. Families need to know how they can recognize mental health symptoms being displayed by their family members, and peers should be informed about the available support which can broaden their outlook and treatment options.
Making a Difference
PlatformQ Health’s VP of Outcomes and Analytics, Dr. Wendy Turell, noted: “People facing depression need education that they can understand and apply. They need their doctors to be informed and ready to work together. We are proud to build on DBSA’s legacy of support for people facing mood disorders by creating education that makes changes at scale”.
The DBSA, which works to apply systematic change, is a top peer-focused mental health organization, which specializes on mood disorders. It works to help more than 200 local affiliate chapters, and 500 support groups. On top of this, it boasts an outreach of four million-plus individuals, to whom it provides various useful tools, educational resources, and general support, so that they can enjoy fulfilling and productive lives by ameliorating their mood disorders.
