Rethinking and Reshaping Mental Health Care

The transformation of Mental Health Care has been on the agenda for a long time now, and there are numerous benefits that could help patients if innovative new approaches and ideas have enough support, and are agreed on and implemented. These ideas are regularly put forward by specialists within the mental health sphere, and are constructed to rethink and reshape mental health care across the US.

The Elevate by Psych Congress

This renowned annual Psych Congress takes place at the Westin Boston Waterfront between March 8th and March 10th. Around 3,000 mental health clinicians from all over the world are expected, so it is set to be a very lively event, with plenty of passionate discussions with those who are for and against new avenues of treatment and delivery. There will be 300 mental health and psychiatry clinicians giving their perspectives, and this combination of early career specialists and others with a keen interest in the subject, is bound to further the cause of mental health treatment within Boston’s thriving digital and mental health ecosystem. The gathering has been arranged by HMP, one of the main leaders in health care events and education.

Agenda

This year’s educational program provides an introduction to some of America’s top minds in mental health  and psychiatry, and very importantly, highlights workable takeaways. It puts the spotlight on a broad spectrum of of essential subjects, such as: telepsychiatry, addiction, and pyschopharmacology, among others [1].

John Elder Robison, the best-selling author, and initiator of the College of William and Mary’s Neurodiversity Program in Williamsburg, VA, will be delivering the 2019 keynote speech. There will also be an elevating talk which is based on his latest release, Switched On, a sequel to Look Me in the Eye, his worldwide bestseller. The author will also share snippets of his phenomenal memoir which reflects on growing up as an Aspie, and how he changed after being involved in innovative brain therapy research which was set up to comprehend and tackle the issues at the center of  Asperger’s and autism.

The principal and founder of ChackoMD, the well known psychiatrist and engineer, J. Andrew Chacko, MD, MSE, FAPA, will deliver a session entitled “Re-Designing Mental Healthcare.” This will incorporate strategies on how to utilize the key elements of design thinking employed by Silicon Valley, into health care.

The last day of the event offers: “Think, a series of short, dynamic TED-style talks designed to spark deep conversation, critical thinking, and new ideas to improve patient care” . Naturally, this is a very crucial topic, and one that urgently needs to be addressed.

The conference is engineered to get participants to think outside the box, and consider innovative ways of reasoning about mental health issues, and less conventional treatments.  Further, it also offers a unique opportunity for attendees to build their career in a substantial way by using strong one-to-one networking, resume reviews, and professional advertising.
